About the National Anthem

Per煤 National Anthem, this national anthem was composed by Jose Bernardo Alcedo, and the lyrics were written by Jose della Torre Ugarte. The national anthem was adopted in 1821. In Peru One month after the declaration of independence, General Jose de San Mart铆n arranged an open competition to find an official national anthem for the newly independent country. San Mart铆n and his national anthem selection committee listened to seven works, and finally the Peruvian composer Jos茅 Bernardo Alcedo鈥檚 work was selected.
