The Republic of Armenia, commonly known as Armenia, is a republic located in the Caucasus region outside West Asia, sometimes considered It is part of Eastern Europe. On the administrative boundary, Armenia is located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. It is a landlocked country. It borders Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan to the south. Yerevan is the capital. Armenia was once one of the republics of the Soviet Union and became independent when the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991. In Armenian, Armenia is called 'Hayastan'.
